Mechanics Of A Proper Golf Swing

If you are looking to get a proper golf swing for improved accuracy and driving distance, this article is going to go into some simple things that can help you to keep everything in check. Some people have a natural swing that works great for them, but for the rest of us a proper golf swing is created and needs to be worked on.

Steps To Make Sure You Have A Proper Golf Swing

  • properswingsequenceThe first thing you want to do is make sure that you base is set up correctly.
  • Find a spot that is perfectly flat and will allow you to swing freely.
  • Set your feet should width apart and let your arms dangle in front of you loosely.

This will get the basics of your swing set up and will be the foundation of everything you do. It is important that you have your feet not too close together but not too far apart. A proper golf swing will let you shift your weight comfortably from back foot to front foot, and if you are too wide you can not do this, too narrow and you could tip or cause the club head to go up and down through the hitting area, making it more difficult to hit an accurate shot.

Once you have set up and approached the ball, you now need to get set for the proper golf swing. This starts with your backswing. You will want to make sure that you bring the club back slowly all the way to the top of the swing just past vertical. You do not need to go much past this for a proper golf swing and this part will come down mostly to feel. I like to bring the club back so that the shaft is at roughly a 45 degree angle with the ground above my head. For you it may be something different.

Then you need to concentrate on your downswing as you come through the ball. This is where people will generally start to make mistakes. The first thing you want to do is start turning your hips so that they pull the club head down. Once the club head has started moving you can speed up the swing by turning through with your shoulders and arms. Your hips however should still be leading the way pulling the club head down towards the ball. What you want to happen is that once your club head has begun moving you want it and your hips to turn through the ball simultaneously. This is the way to get the most power out of your swing. Another important key is that you keep your head down and your eye on the point of impact as the club head goes past. If you are not looking at what you are hitting, you will have problems.

One of the best ways to increase driving distance is by doing this, and so it is obviously very important. The width of your golf swing is the distance between your hands and chest on both the backswing and downswing.

Another benefit of gaining width is to make up for a lack of backswing range of motion.
